Grandma Julie

Our inspiration for The Julia comes from Julia Hardy Gunsbury, developer Curt Gunsbury’s grandmother. Born in Pittsburgh in 1901, Grandma Julie was a spirited, gutsy and before-her-time kind of gal. An editor, writer and public relations director, her zest for life fueled many travel adventures and kept her young at heart, well into her twilight years.

Reflecting the spirit of its namesake, The Julia sits at the gateway to Nordeast, welcoming visitors with its unique, triangular shape and eclectic style. The building brings its own mid-20th century bohemian twist to the Nordeast sisterhood, coupled with 21st century amenities such as light-filled spaces, hip outdoor hang outs and ready access to the vibrant neighborhood culture.

OUR COMPANY

Opening December 2018, The Julia is a joint project between Solhem Companies and Lis Services. The partnership has it roots in a friendship formed between Brad Lis and Curt Gunsbury over a decade ago. Brad suggested that this former home of an asphalt surfacing company would make a wonderful site as new housing for the Nordeast neighborhood. A big fan of the food and beer scene in Nordeast, Curt readily agreed. The duo aims to foster community through good sustainable design that’s delivered with a fun, modern vibe.

Over the last 14 years, Solhem has developed and managed 20+ multi-family properties in some of the Twin Cities’ hottest neighborhoods. Recognized as a best-in-class management and development company, Solhem creates beautiful, sustainable communities that people love.
